1Prince William County Fair
As the largest county fair in Virginia, the Prince William County Fair is an event the whole family can enjoy. Rides, games, crafts, a demolition derby and daily performances, including mountain music from Jeff Robbins and local kid-friendly comedian and magician Reggie Rice, are all on the agenda for this year. / Aug. 14-22
2Friendship Firehouse Festival
Kids can celebrate the hard work and sacrifices of both old and new firefighters at the Friendship Firehouse Festival in Alexandria. The festival includes free tours, supervised truck rides, fire hats and balloons, craft booths and special exhibits that show off the historic equipment used by 19th- and 20th-century firefighters. / Aug. 1
3Sugar Free Allstars
Sugar Free Allstars are stars in the Kindie Rock scene, according to Time magazine that is. At Wolf Trap, the band will perform fun, energetic tunes just for kids, so both children and parents can enjoy music and dancing. / Aug. 5
4Magic by Geo
As a part of Reston Community Center’s Family Fun Entertainment series, magician Geoffrey Weber takes the stage in a kid-friendly magic show titled “Magic by Geo.” The show mixes illusions, party tricks and comedy and is sure to leave both parents and kids amazed. / Aug. 8
5Astronomy for Everyone
Sky Meadow State Park will host an educational and entertaining night full of astronomy fun for kids of all ages. The event includes a night sky tour and a chance to look through telescopes provided by the Virginia Astronomy Club. / Aug. 8
6Kids Fishing Tournament
Leesylvania State Park in Woodbridge will have a fishing tournament where children can learn some fishing basics and see what they can catch. The park will have some equipment, but families are encouraged to bring their own. / Aug. 1
7Feed the Animals
Kids and families will have a chance to work with real live animals at the Hidden Pond Nature Center in Springfield. Each person will help the naturalists at the center feed and care for the center’s population while learning about the natural world at the same time. / Aug. 11
8Disney in Concert
Fans of any age will enjoy Wolf Trap’s Disney in Concert performance with fan-favorite Disney songs like “Let it Go” from “Frozen” and “Hakuna Matata” from “The Lion King.” The Wolf Trap Orchestra will accompany performers. / Aug. 21
9Footworks
Fully titled “The Footworks Percussive Dance Ensemble,” the dance company specializing in traditional clogging will be coming to the Hylton Performing Arts Center in Manassas. The dance company performs many different styles of percussive dance from Irish to South African, which promises a fun, energetic show. / Aug. 5
10Discover the Dinosaurs
Discover the Dinosaurs at the Dulles Town Center will have over 40 moving and replica dinosaur exhibits. Kids can get up close and personal with dinosaur replicas and press a button to make them move, or they can walk through immersive dinosaur scenes complete with motion, lighting and sound effects. / Aug. 28-30
